Baby boy arrived in late May and we met at their home for his newborn portraits at just seven days old. I assumed such a young baby would sleep the entire time, but in fact he was awake nearly the entire two hours I was there! He knew it was his showtime and he didn’t want to miss out, and honestly I love how alert he is in these portraits, already making eye contact!

Winter is often a quiet time of the year for photographers, at least here in Virginia. The weather can be somewhat unpredictable. You never know if it will be cold or warm, rainy or sunny, but sometimes, the starts align and the late afternoon light is just extra magic. I’m not sure if it’s the way the light shines through the naked brown trees or if it’s the fact that after weeks of early sunsets and chilly days, seeing a golden glowy sunset is extra special. Either way, such was the case when I met up with Holly and Colin for their Maymont maternity portraits. 

This fall I attended a wonderful workshop, GATHER, with The Kindred Path in Richmond. I learned so much in just that one day and I am so excited to be joining them for another workshop this spring! The best compliment you can give any photographer is to come back them year after year for your family portraits. It means the world to me to know that you love your portraits and that you enjoyed your experience with me! In the age of social media where imposter syndrome runs wild and free, it can be really hard emotionationally for creatives to keep going. But, this is what keeps me going day in and day out.

Sweet Eliza’s newborn portraits were taken in the middle of the a big heat wave in Virginia this July. It was toasty outside, so I was glad to be in the cool A/C for newborn portraits.

It was a cold January day when I met up with the newly-minted family of four for little Emmett’s newborn portraits, but the burnt orange and beige color palette that mom picked out for the family’s outfits made it feel so warm!
