Teeny tiny baby clothes are one of the most exciting things about having a baby! I loved sitting in our nursery, folding and refolding all the sweet baby clothes and thinking about our little girl wearing them one day. As a local family and newborn photographer, I know all about finding cute baby clothes in Richmond and this post is here to help you out!

What to look for when shopping for baby clothes in Richmond

There are lots of things to consider when buying clothes for your baby. In fact, I hesitated to buy anything until Josephine was born. Ok, I bought a few things, but I held out to buy the majority of her clothes until she was here. We were also fortunate to be gifted so many sweet clothes from family and friends!

Now that I am nine months into dressing a tiny human, here are some things that I personally consider when buying cute baby clothes in Richmond.

Budget: How much do I want to spend on clothes? Will she get a lot of wear? If it’s expensive, is it something I will value for the long term?

Durability: Now that she is crawling and feeding herself, cute clothes are reserved for church, photo sessions and special occasions. I like to have an array of “play” clothes that she can romp around in during the day, then save her fancier clothes for when I know we will be taking photos (even iPhone photos!). The ability to go in the washer and dryer is a must for me.

Functionality: In the early days, I learned quickly that I wanted easy access to diaper changes so it was a lot of baby gowns and footie magnetic pajamas (with mittens). I didn’t have time for the onesie + pants + socks combo, I needed it all in one! Even now that she’s older, I will opt for a bubble or dress w/bloomers since they are so much easier to change my busy baby girl in and out of!

Style: I definitely have a more traditional style for Josephine, smocked bubbles, dresses, mary-jane shoes and bows! But there are so many sweet styles out there, like boho, preppy, sporty, and even themed-clothes!

Do you remember the days visiting your grandparents, pouring over albums upon albums of family photos? Your parents' lives spread out on the pages before you. Photos leading to stories, leading to long-forgotten memories, recalling details from days long ago.

I do. It was always my favorite pastime visiting my grandma, the family documentarian. Now the task has passed down to me, documenting the days as they go by, keeping the record for my nieces and nephews, for my own children to come.

Now think of your children, ten, twenty, fifty years from now. What will they have to look back on to remember a time they were too young to recall themselves.

It would be my honor to be your family's documentarian, too! Forever chronicling your journey together with timeless portraits that your family will enjoy for generations to come.
