Newborn sessions hit a bit differently these days now that I am expecting my own little one in a few short months. I love every minute I get to hold and soothe your newborn during a session, and it used to sadden me each time I handed them back to the parents or laid them on my posing bean bag. It has begun to dawn on me that soon I won’t be giving a baby back after a session but instead will have one to take care of 24/7! I can’t wait to see what life will be like as a mom.

I can transport myself back to the very moment that Linda and Gordon told me they were expecting. We were at holiday minis in the fall and Linda asked if they could use a special pop. I knew immediately what they were getting at before they even pulled out their little quilted baby shirt. I think I even teared up a bit I was so excited!

Baby boy arrived in late May and we met at their home for his newborn portraits at just seven days old. I assumed such a young baby would sleep the entire time, but in fact he was awake nearly the entire two hours I was there! He knew it was his showtime and he didn’t want to miss out, and honestly I love how alert he is in these portraits, already making eye contact!

We of course took lots of time to capture his little details.

I loved the nautical theme of his nursery set in classic baby blue.

I was also excited to bring out a new Willow Canvas mat I had recently acquired at the Gather workshop. One day I hope to have a big backdrop for the studio, but I love having the mats in pink, and now blue, for newborn portraits!

Do you remember the days visiting your grandparents, pouring over albums upon albums of family photos? Your parents' lives spread out on the pages before you. Photos leading to stories, leading to long-forgotten memories, recalling details from days long ago.

I do. It was always my favorite pastime visiting my grandma, the family documentarian. Now the task has passed down to me, documenting the days as they go by, keeping the record for my nieces and nephews, for my own children to come.

Now think of your children, ten, twenty, fifty years from now. What will they have to look back on to remember a time they were too young to recall themselves.

It would be my honor to be your family's documentarian, too! Forever chronicling your journey together with timeless portraits that your family will enjoy for generations to come.

A photo is worth a thousand memories
