This fall I attended a wonderful workshop, GATHER, with The Kindred Path in Richmond. I learned so much in just that one day and I am so excited to be joining them for another workshop this spring!
If you haven’t already, read more about the morning session at GATHER, here!
After lunch, we had another chat about providing products to clients. Gorgeous heirloom albums, museum-quality framed prints, luxury matted print boxes and albums – say less!
Before kicking off the talk, Marie, of Marie Elizabeth Photography, asked the group how many of us had photo albums or wall art of our families. A few hands went up out of a dozen – and mind you, we’re all family photographers! I neglected to raise my hand as well, as I had yet to order our wedding albums from TWO years ago! However, in my defense, I have spent my time making albums for my mom and sisters and I knew that was the best gift I could possibly give- but in that moment I realized how important it is to have your family photos documented and on display.
I also realized, being in a room full of busy moms, how hard it is to find time to make an album or print photos and buy frames. To design a gallery wall? Who has time for that!
According to psychiatrists, children who see themselves and their families on display in their home have higher self-esteem. As the youngest in a family of three girls who witness the amount of family photos dwindle with each child, I can attest to this. Why not print and hang photos from your portrait session? Time.
This led me to the decision to enhance my customer experience by taking the work out of the equation for my families and deliver gorgeous, custom-artwork to their homes. But more on that, later!
The afternoon family session took place at Historic Tuckahoe just outside the city. I have talked so many times about how much I love this spot, with its limitless number of backdrop opportunities to the way the sun hits it at sunset – it’s chef’s kiss. Perfect.
Our family was perfect as well. Mom and dad with two sweet boys and a gorgeous three month old baby girl! I really tested out my new film camera and the results blew me out of the water.
The family simply played and enjoyed spending time with each other as we photographers documented the late summer evening. It was one of the most natural portrait experiences I Have ever been a part of, and it was SO much fun! I can’t thank the Schmid family and the team behind Gather enough for this amazing opportunity. I will let the images speak for themselves and just say that I cannot wait for my next workshop!
