The best compliment you can give any photographer is to come back them year after year for your family portraits. It means the world to me to know that you love your portraits and that you enjoyed your experience with me! In the age of social media where imposter syndrome runs wild and free, it can be really hard emotionationally for creatives to keep going. But, this is what keeps me going day in and day out.
I met Jenny and Scott last summer when they inquired about newborn portraits for their little one. I mentioned my maternity + newborn bundled package and luckily we were able to squeeze in these gorgeous maternity portraits at Belle Isle just before little girl made her big debut! Lily’s newborn portraits and colorful nursery were another highlight of that summer, I loved that her parents were super engaged with the portraits and wanted to try out all the different bows and props. It was so fun!
Well, one year later we were back in the July heat for Lily’s one year milestone portraits! It’s so hard to believe how time has flown by.
Jenny chose Maymont for Lily’s portraits, a classic venue and all-time favorites. In addition to a crazy heatwave this summer, Virginia was having a lot of rain and thunderstorms. I was really worried that we would need to make use of the rain date we had planned, but luckily the clouds broke just in time for us to get about an hour of photos in! The park also wasn’t super crowded due to the rain, which is always nice.
Milestone portraits are always so unique because they allow for different combinations of photos! I especially love when the parents get involved. I think about my family portraits growing up as a child and I would love to have more with just my mom and I or just my dad and I when I wasn’t sweating after a soccer game or at an amusement park! I think they’re such special memories to have and look back upon as your child grows up.
Jenny and Scott were also open to some fun umbrella portraits when the rain did pick up a little, and I think they turned out so cute!
Luckily, Maymont has this cupola so we were able to do some more photos in the rain under the cover of that.
This was such a fun milestone session and I can’t wait to see these three again!
